Unknown £592 Unknown Paid Mr. Barlow by Purchaseing £800 Stock 4 [per] Cents in his name, which Stock he sold out for the use of Thos. Harris Esqr. Augs. 20th 1796 This payment has not been made sense of. Before it, Barlow was sometimes paid interest "on £800 4 [per] Cent Consols" (18 October 1796) and simply "on £800" (11 June 1793 and other occasions), but after this payment he continued to be paid interest "on £800" (26 February 1799 and other occasions) without any consols being specified. Perhaps this payment should be regarded as a loan repayment; perhaps as a payment to Barlow for his work as a treasurer, paid by purchasing consols (government debt) for him or from him.
