13 Apr 1741 Covent Garden £1 1s Mr. Comelati, for his Note paid to Mr. Rochetti by Mr. J. Rich BD vol. 3, p. 433 suggests that Comelati was a singer, on the basis that he was often paid for performing in Orpheus and Eurydice at 5s per performance, plus for performances "besides". But there are multiple other capacities in which he could have performed in Orpheus, and in fact the "besides" payments (and other payments to him unrelated to Orpheus) were paid at a lower rate, and there is no evidence that they related to any kind of performance. Moreover, Comelati was not included in the season's performers' payroll; but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. This payment is interpreted as Comelati's salary, paid in the form of a promissory note that he endorsed and deposited with, or used to pay, Mr Rochetti, who then cashed it with John Rich, who then claimed the money back from CG.
