The following season, he was paid a one-off payment of £1333 6s 8d (i.e. 2/3 of £2000) for no specified reason. These payments were in addition to his acting and management salaries, his benefit-lieu payment, and his proceeds from six private boxes. Perhaps they were dividends, but their neatness and their earliness in Kemble's proprietorial tenure suggest that they were fixed payments agreed upon in advance when Kemble bought into Covent Garden theatre.
