| Benefit Payments | £239 12s 6d | Internal | Paid Mrs: Wells the full Receipt of the 7th: May, as a free Nt | Mary Wells was in staitened circumstances at this point, and her last performance had apparently been on 28 December 1792 (see BD vol. 15, p. 350). Moreover, LS vol. 5, p. 1545 does not list this night as a benefit, though it is clearly described as "Mrs. Wells's Nt:" in the relevant account book (which does not seem to have been known to the LS editors). Thus this should perhaps better be regarded as a charitable benefit, or just a charitable gift, for Mary Wells. |
| Miscellaneous | £10 6d | Internal | Music &c. | The term "Music &c." was used in this account book to cover daily payments to the band, the properties department and a kettle drummer. Comparison with other account books suggests that the bulk of the money (generally 80-90%) went to the band, 5s went to the kettle drummer and the rest of the money went to the properties. |
