Mr Barratt seems to have been paid purely for wax candles up to and including the 1791-92 season, then paid for oil and candles from the 1793-94 season onwards. Those dates would suggest that this payment was only for wax candles, yet its size suggests that it may have included the cost of oil, which perhaps Mr Barratt had begun supplying to Drury Lane in the 1791-92 season or earlier, but was only now being paid for. |
