Paid Donation to Mr Duncan & Mrs Paddock |
BD vol. 11, p. 144 describes a Mrs Paddick, actress and wardrobe mistress, whom it states was not mentioned again after 1775, so this payment may well have been a charitable donation to her. However, the only possible candidate for "Mr Duncan" listed in BD is the actor Timothy Duncan (vol. 4, pp. 503-4), who seems to have left Covent Garden to perform in Ireland shortly before this payment was made, and therefore does not seem a likely object of charity, unless he had needed the money for the voyage to Ireland. |

Paid Mr Booth, in advance, |
Presumably Cockran Joseph Booth, who was ill and close to death at this time. Although Booth was an actor, he seems to have functioned primarily as a prompter at this time; the term "a Bill" probably relates to his work in writing parts, for which he was specifically paid multiple times between 1783-88. (See also BD vol. 2, pp. 229-30.). |
