Employees (Other) 8s Internal Osborne Do [4 days] Perhaps the dancer of that name, described in BD vol. 11, p. 120. This Osborne was not included in the season's performers' payroll, but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such.
House Servants (Other) £5 5s Departmental Mr Jarvis on acct. BD vol. 8, p. 139 suggests Jarvis was a housekeeper and pit officekeeper. This payment, made on the same day as a salary payment to him, covered perhaps one or both of his salaries, perhaps housekeeping costs.
House Servants (Other) 6s 8d Internal Bayley Do [4 days] Bayley was not included in the season's performers' payroll, but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. Thus Bayley was probably, but not certainly, a house servant.
House Servants (Other) 6s 8d Internal Smith Do. [4 days] Smith was not included in the season's performers' payroll, but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. Thus Smith was probably, but not certainly, a house servant.
House Servants (Other) 6s 8d Internal Browse Do [4 days] Browse was not included in the season's performers' payroll, but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. Thus Browse was probably, but not certainly, a house servant.
House Servants (Other) 8s Internal Driscoll Do [4 days]
House Servants (Other) 8s Internal Jarvis Do [4 days] BD vol. 8, p. 139 suggests Jarvis was a housekeeper and pit officekeeper, and this may have been his salary in only one of those capacities.
House Servants (Other) £1 Internal Mr Perry 4 days Perry was not included in the season's performers' payroll, but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. Thus Perry was probably, but not certainly, a house servant.
Housekeeping £1 Internal Page a Week's Sallary Mr Page, identified as a housekeeper in the 1740-41 account book.
Performers (Other) £26 5s Internal Caratha the Turk & Co. Do. [a Week's Sallary]
Performers (Other) £130 4s 8d Internal [performers' payroll entries here aggregated] This payroll seems to have included a few people who were not performers, but most of them were. Moreover, the payment record of 10 May 1750 shows that it was conceived as the performers' list; and even the non-performers were perhaps more related to performance than most house servants were, such as John Stede the prompter.
Treasurers 13s 4d Internal White Do. [4 days]
Dressers £2 15s 4d Internal Women Dressers Do [4 days]
Scene Painters £3 18s 4d Internal Herring Painter a Bill
Scene Painters £21 Internal Mr La Court in full for Painting for the Fair
Miscellaneous £45 7s 4d Departmental By the Nightly Charge
Uncategorised £8 8s Unknown Mr Hoole on acct. BD vol. 7, p. 403, observing a Mr Hool active at CG in 1741 only, suggests him to have been "the head of a crew of stage carpenters or stagehands." The recipient here was paid much more money in 1749-50 than the recipient in 1740-41, "his men" were not mentioned this season, and his name was spelled differently, so perhaps it was a different person.
Uncategorised £2 2s Unknown Mr J Rich by Mr Brerewood Terry Jenkins, in John Rich: The Man Who Built Covent Garden Theatre (2016), p. 61 suggests this payment was a charitable donation to the brother of Rich's first wife, Francis Brerewood, noting that "the neatness of the sum suggests that it was not payment for work or services rendered."
