Mr. Cibber |
All daily £1 payments to Cibber from 26 December 1740 until 20 April 1741 (after which the account book abruptly ends) lack the tick sign and marginal "pd" note written besides almost all other payments this season. Perhaps his payment arrangements changed on 26 December. |

[performers' payroll entries here aggregated] |
This payroll seems to have included a few people who were not performers, but most of them were. Moreover, the payment record of 10 May 1750 (in the 1749-50 account book, which followed the same format as 1740-1741) shows that it was conceived as the performers' list; and even the non-performers were perhaps more related to performance than most house servants were, such as John Stede the prompter. |

[nightly charge] |
This season's account book does not record or itemise the nightly charges, but it is evident that they were diverted from the nightly receipts. The sums are here calculated by deducting the money received into the treasury via Mr Wood from this night's performance receipts or benefit charge, as appropriate. |

Perhaps a dancer of that name, perhaps Mary Cooke, an elderly actor whom CG seems to have supported charitably or as a pensioner at this time. |

Mr. Hamersly, for makeing mr. Hool's Artics |
BD vol. 7, p. 403 states this "Mr. Hamersly" to have been the CG tailor of that name, and seems to suggest the "Artics." to have been articles of clothing for Mr Hool's men ("stage carpenters or stagehands"). However, other payments this season for "makeing... Artics." (17 November 1740) and "Makeing... Articles" (15 April 1741) were not to Mr Hamersly, and did not relate to recipients who managed a team, so it seems likelier that the "Artics" in question were articles of employment. |
