Mr. Cibber |
All daily £1 payments to Cibber from 26 December 1740 until 20 April 1741 (after which the account book abruptly ends) lack the tick sign and marginal "pd" note written besides almost all other payments this season. Perhaps his payment arrangements changed on 26 December. |

Miss Horsington in part of a Note of hand Endors'd by her for 36 pounds & pd to Mr. Evans |
In its entry for Margaretta Horsington, actress and dancer, BD vol. 7, p. 417 notes one of the records concerning her note and a £36 payment to Mr Evans. But it does not attempt to explain it, and in fact there were four such records, together covering the entire £36. The arrangement is here interpreted as a £36 promissory note which CG paid her on account of her performances, which she deposited with or used to pay Mr Evans, who cashed it in with CG in instalments. |

[nightly charge] |
This season's account book does not record or itemise the nightly charges, but it is evident that they were diverted from the nightly receipts. The sums are here calculated by deducting the money received into the treasury via Mr Wood from this night's performance receipts or benefit charge, as appropriate. |
