Actors £1 5s Internal Mr. Ryan
Actors £1 10s Internal Mr. Delane
Actors £1 10s Internal Mrs Horton
Actors £1 Internal Mr Cibber All daily £1 payments to Cibber from 26 December 1740 until 20 April 1741 (after which the account book abruptly ends) lack the tick sign and marginal "pd" note written besides almost all other payments this season. Perhaps his payment arrangements changed on 26 December.
Actors 6s 8d Internal Mr. Bridgwater
Doorkeepers and Officekeepers 2s 6d Internal Corbett
Security 2s Internal Constable
Management 16s 8d Internal Mr. C. Rich
Miscellaneous £27 16s 2d Departmental [nightly charge] This season's account book does not record or itemise the nightly charges, but it is evident that they were diverted from the nightly receipts. The sums are here calculated by deducting the money received into the treasury via Mr Wood from this night's performance receipts or benefit charge, as appropriate.
Unknown £20 Unknown Mr. Sarjant of Uxbridge, by mr. Mason Presumably this payment was similar to that of 27 November 1740, "Mr Forrest (on acct. for Mrs. Sarjant)", also £20. Charles Sarjant of Uxbridge was CG's housekeeper by 1759, and also box-book keeper by 1763. But BD vol. 13, p. 207 suggests that he may not have been a CG employee even as late as 1758, when he apparently received a charitable, rather than an employee benefit there; and it states that his wife, Mrs Sarjant, was employed at CG in the 1759-60 season in an unknown capacity. Hence the Sarjants' status in 1740-41 is unclear.
