Mrs. S. Vincent by Do. [Note of hand Endors'd by her] and paid to mr. Sharp |
Interpreted here as Mrs S. Vincent's dancing salary, paid in the form of a promissory note that she endorsed, then deposited with or used to pay Mr Sharp, who cashed it with CG. BD vol. 15, p. 176 observes a Mrs S. Vincent being paid £1 per week in 1746-47, "perhaps... as a dancer", but expresses uncertainty over her existence, suggesting "Mrs." may have been an error for "Mr.". However, she is also attested here, and the company list at the start of the 1760-61 account book records an "S. V.", apparently in a special subsection of female dancers (including "P. R", Priscilla Rich, who had once been a dancer and was perhaps still involved in dancing in some capacity). |

Mons: Michell on acct. |
BD vol. 10, pp. 211-12 suggests that payments to Monsieur (François) Michel in 1740-41 were for his children's dancing (as indicated in a payment record of 19 September 1740). |

Comelati for 1 night in Orpheus & 5 besides |
BD vol. 3, p. 433 suggests that Comelati was a singer, on the basis that he was often paid for performing in Orpheus and Eurydice at 5s per performance, plus for performances "besides". But there are multiple other capacities in which he could have performed in Orpheus, and in fact the "besides" payments (and other payments to him unrelated to Orpheus) were paid at a lower rate, and there is no evidence that they related to any kind of performance. Moreover, Comelati was not included in the season's performers' payroll; but it appears that inclusion there may have been partly or wholly determined by salary level, rather than by the performer/non-performer distinction as such. |

6 Days [performers' payroll entries here aggregated] |
This payroll seems to have included a few people who were not performers, but most of them were. Moreover, the payment record of 10 May 1750 (in the 1749-50 account book, which followed the same format as 1740-1741) shows that it was conceived as the performers' list; and even the non-performers were perhaps more related to performance than most house servants were, such as John Stede the prompter. |

[nightly charge] |
This season's account book does not record or itemise the nightly charges, but it is evident that they were diverted from the nightly receipts. The sums are here calculated by deducting the money received into the treasury via Mr Wood from this night's performance receipts or benefit charge, as appropriate. |

Mr. Grainger on acct. |
A Mr Grainger was paid bills or "on acct." regularly in 1740-41. Perhaps he was the Lincoln's Inn Fields tailor, noted by BD vol. 6, pp. 300-01 as fl. 1724-29. |
