08 Jan 1801 Drury Lane £50 Do. [Mr. Kemble] on Account of the Play of Deaf & Dumb dated 25 BD vol. 8, p. 326 mentions that Charles Kemble and Maria Theresa De Camp were sometimes reported to have been the authors of Deaf and Dumb, but it rejects that attribution; it also mentions that Charles Kemble acted in it and, on p. 354, mentions that John Philip Kemble acted in it too. Based on the ditto and the lack of a first name, it appears that John Philip was the recipient here; presumably he was being paid for producing the play (i.e. as a stage manager, not as an author), as further suggested by a payment of 12 March 1801, "Mr. Kemble for a Picture in Deaf & Dumb".
